Methodology & coverage

How PodiumScout turns public meet results into searchable youth performance rankings—and where the MVP’s limits still matter.

01

What qualifies

A performance must come from a public result set, map to a supported event or race distance, include a valid mark, and pass PodiumScout’s eligibility and identity checks. Preliminary, deleted, superseded, incomplete, or technically invalid results are excluded from public rankings.

02

How athletes are matched

PodiumScout uses source-supplied identity fields such as athlete name, team, gender, and grade or graduation year. Records missing important identity evidence remain provisional and are not publicly ranked. PodiumScout does not use private registration details such as phone numbers, street addresses, ZIP codes, or dates of birth.

03

How ranks are calculated

The best eligible performance for each athlete is used within a ranking group. Lower times rank ahead of higher times, and identical marks share the same rank. Rankings can be separated by sport, event or distance, gender, state, grade, age, and season when the necessary source data is available.

04

Cross-country limits

Cross-country performances are grouped by race distance, but courses are not treated as equivalent. PodiumScout’s MVP does not apply course-difficulty adjustments, speed ratings, weather adjustments, or conversion formulas. A faster time on one course does not necessarily represent a stronger performance than a slower time on another.

05

Verification and sources

Source verified means the displayed mark matches a public result supplied through an approved data source. It does not mean PodiumScout independently timed or officiated the competition. Initial cross-country coverage uses public results supplied by race timing providers through RunSignup.

06

Corrections and removals

PodiumScout checks source updates and deletion records. Corrected results replace older versions, while deleted and superseded records become non-rankable. Prior versions may be retained privately for audit history but are excluded from current public rankings.

Coverage status

Growing, not complete

PodiumScout rankings represent the eligible public results currently available to the platform. They are not yet a complete national census and should always be confirmed against the original meet result.
